Mac Studio Fix N4
Before we get down to the review I ought to let you know my skin type is oily / combination and I prefer my foundation to be medium to full coverage as my face isn't one uniform colour. This review is based on samples of the product.
Mac Studio Fix Fluid Nw10 Swatch Review
Packaging - The product comes in a 30ml bottle with a pour type of neck, you can however pay £3.50 to get a pump dispenser to go along with the foundation which would no doubt make a good difference. (I had the same problem with my Revlon Colourstay and put it in a airless pump bottle, worked brilliantly). Foundation which comes with this sort of bottle can become messy and wasteful.
Mac Studio Fix Powder N4
Oxidisation - Some people have a problem with this foundation oxidising on the skin (reacting with your skin and becoming more orange). Hopefully you will be able to see in the photos that at first the foundation was one colour, then once it had dried and had time to react it turned a lot more orange on the skin. Which is why when applied correctly the shade NW15 wasn't too bad of a match but after around 20 minutes it had unfortunately oxidised and made me look tangoed. On the plus side, since I was matched to the lightest shade MAC have now brought out two lighter shades in NW10 and NW13, which I need to trial and see how much they change on my skin after wearing for 20 minutes or so.

Coverage - I found this foundation to be a medium coverage, any extra application to gain a more full coverage left it looking slightly cakey. I applied it with my fingers and this did give a medium coverage, although the heat from my fingers did make it dry quite quickly so I did have to work quickly. I tried to apply it with my ELF Studio Powder brush but I found it too dense and the coverage became quite cakey. I tried to apply it with a Real Techniques Stipple Brush which did allow for a much more natural coverage.
How did it wear? I tried the foundation with ELF's Mineral Primer and without a primer and I found it wore the same. After 5-6 hours the foundation on my t-zone had been broken down and it had became almost scaley, which is not an attractive look. I also appeared to be quite shiny and very glowing, this wasn't too bad until around the 8 hour mark which for a long lasting foundation isn't actually that long. The photo is after eight hours, and I had powdered my tzone when I first applied the foundation.
Smell - I have heard this described as paint stripper however I think it is much more the ready mixed poster paint you got at school in the big bottles.
Removal - Very easy for a medium coverage foundation, you can use a make up removal wipe (although not really recommended for a through cleanse) and it would get this off. Whereas something like Revlon Colourstay there is no chance you would be able to remove it with a wipe.
Shade Selection - As I mentioned before MAC has since released two lighter shades, NW10 and NW13. (They need to bring lighter shades for yellow undertones). The shade range go up to a NC55 and NW58 which are quite deep and there is a lot to choose from, so in terms of the high street they do have a good selection of colours. However as always there is room for improvement.
Will I purchase this? Undecided, I really didn't like how much the colour changed on my skin but this may be resolved by choosing a lighter shade. Other issues I have is with the wearing of it, the foundation broke down within eight hours on my skin which is disappointing. I need to go back and get a lighter tester and trial it with various primers before I can decide if I want to spend so much on a foundation. Generally I am happy with my Revlon Colourstay for days when I need full long lasting coverage, and for medium coverage lasting 12+ hours I'm happy with Rimmel's 25 hour Lasting Finish Foundation.
